Brazen Edwards is a versatile artist that grew up in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and as a child it became apparent that she had the innate aptitude for drawing so was mentored in numerous classes at the Edmonton Art Gallery where she was eventually encouraged to attend high school at the newly developed Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts. There she was able to hone her talents by receiving formal training in fine art, set design and construction.
She later enrolled in the BA Criminology Program at the University of Alberta and was given special permission to take Art Fundamentals as a component of her degree and concentrated on painting, printmaking, sculpture and drawing. She later went on to pursue a career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and relocated to the Okanagan in 2009. She found the region to be inspiring, and realized art was her true calling, so she began devoting herself full time to that pursuit in 2010.
Despite being an emerging artist, Brazen achieved active status with the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) and has been fortunate enough to have her artwork collected by prominent celebrities and has sold her work internationally as well as been highlighted in numerous juried exhibitions, local art shows and galleries.
In 2015, she opened Ellis Art Studios, a 6000sq ft fine art facility located downtown Kelowna that utilizes a mentor–apprentice model to prepares artists, emerging or professional to develop their art and design skills. She offers world class visual art/design–based workshop programs, consulting services, professional art supplies, custom framing and affordable studio work space to help others become successful in the art world.
Brazen is inspired by nature and the flowing movement of water and pigment that intermingles on various substrates. Her handling of paint and surface tension is strikingly accomplished, achieving a rich dichotomy of colour and line that is both intriguing and elusive. Her focus is mainly on an abstracted portrayal of the natural world but she has the ability to capture and create realistic subjects where the viewer is left connected with the intricacies of their environment.
Although she established a reputation with realism early in her career, her subject matter has evolved to a more minimalist construct honing in on the relationship between form and colour. She feels it's important to push herself as an Artist and explore the boundaries - never being afraid to try new and engaging approaches to art.
